ST Engineering has announced a significant milestone in its defence technology portfolio, securing a contract from Singapore’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) for the production and supply of next-generation Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs). The contract, awarded in December 2025, underscores ST Engineering’s leadership in delivering advanced defence solutions tailored to meet the evolving demands of modern warfare.
Scheduled for progressive delivery starting in 2028, the new IFVs will be based on the Terrex s5, the latest addition to ST Engineering’s family of 8×8 armoured fighting platforms. The Terrex s5 is designed with five core pillars in mind: Smartness, Superiority, Sustainability, Survivability, and Serviceability. This next-generation platform promises to deliver superior mobility, lethal firepower, and advanced survivability, setting a new standard in land defence technology.
The Terrex s5 boasts a range of cutting-edge capabilities, including digitalised systems for enhanced situational awareness and operational efficiency. It features a Cyber-secure Generic Vehicle Architecture, providing robust protection against cyber threats, advanced vehicle electronics, and enhanced firepower. These innovations ensure that the Terrex s5 is well-equipped to handle the complexities of modern combat environments.
ST Engineering will collaborate with MINDEF and the Defence Science and Technology Agency to integrate additional capabilities into the IFVs. This partnership aims to further enhance the vehicle’s performance and adaptability, ensuring it meets the highest standards of military readiness and operational excellence.
“MINDEF’s selection of the Terrex s5 as its next-generation IFV reaffirms our ability in designing and building advanced armoured mobility platforms,” said Lim Kok Ann, President of the Land Systems business at ST Engineering. “With our multi-domain expertise and engineering depth, we are confident that the new IFV will deliver outstanding mobility, advanced smart technologies, and unmatched adaptability to support Singapore’s future fighting force.”
Lim Kok Ann added, “As we continue to innovate and address the evolving needs of the modern armed forces, the Terrex s5 will strengthen our portfolio of integrated defence offerings for nations seeking proven and robust solutions to expand their national defence capabilities.”
This contract not only highlights ST Engineering’s technological prowess but also its strategic partnership with MINDEF. The Terrex s5 is poised to become a cornerstone in Singapore’s defence strategy, providing the Singapore Armed Forces with a cutting-edge platform that can adapt to the challenges of future warfare. As ST Engineering continues to innovate, the Terrex s5 will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of land defence, offering nations a reliable and advanced solution to bolster their defence capabilities.
