Ukraine and the United Kingdom have taken a significant step forward in their defence cooperation by agreeing to a systematic exchange of data on weapons usage. This move is designed to accelerate the adaptation of military technologies to real battlefield conditions, thereby enhancing the defence capabilities of both nations. The agreement was highlighted by Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, during a recent Telegram conversation with his British counterpart, John Gili.
Fedorov emphasised that the exchange will not only improve the effectiveness of current military technologies but also pave the way for intensified cooperation in research and development (R&D). The focus will be on supporting innovative joint projects that deliver practical results on the front lines. “We agreed to deepen our cooperation in R&D and to support innovative joint projects that yield practical results at the front,” Fedorov stated.
A key priority discussed during the exchange was the strengthening of Ukraine’s air defence capabilities. This includes joint steps in the defence industry, particularly the further development of protection systems and the introduction of cutting-edge technologies that enable a faster response to emerging threats. The Octopus drone production project, a joint venture between Ukraine and the UK, was highlighted as a significant achievement. This project has already bolstered Ukraine’s defence against Shahed drone attacks and reduced risks at the front.
“The Octopus drone production project is already strengthening Ukraine’s defence against Shahed drone attacks and reducing risks at the front,” Fedorov noted. The Octopus drone interceptor, which went into serial production in Ukraine in November 2025, has been transferred to the first three manufacturers, with another 11 production lines in preparation.
The discussions also touched on preparations for the 33rd meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in the Ramstein format, scheduled for February 2026. This meeting is expected to further solidify the defence cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement underscores the shared commitment of Ukraine and the United Kingdom to develop defence technologies and innovative solutions that can be rapidly deployed on the front lines. By strengthening their defence potential, both nations aim to address current security challenges and build a resilient defence framework for the future.
This collaboration not only enhances the operational readiness of both countries but also sets a precedent for future partnerships in the defence sector. As Ukraine and the UK continue to innovate and adapt their military technologies, their joint efforts will play a crucial role in shaping the future of defence and security in Europe.
