India’s Next-Gen Fighters to Redefine Air Power by 2047

Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh has underscored the significance of India’s next-generation fighter programmes, Tejas Mark II and the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), describing them as pivotal milestones that will surpass previous achievements by integrating cutting-edge technologies. Speaking at the Tejas-25 national seminar, hosted by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), he emphasized the dedicated efforts of the teams working on these projects to ensure they meet advanced capabilities and are delivered within improved timelines.

The two-day seminar, celebrating 25 years of the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), convened scientists, defence experts, and industry leaders to chart the future of Indian aviation up to 2047. The Tejas Mark II, an upgraded version of India’s indigenous LCA, is designed to offer enhanced range, payload, and multirole capabilities. Equipped with advanced avionics and weapons systems, it aims to replace older fighter jets in the Indian Air Force and bolster India’s self-reliance in defence aviation.

The AMCA, India’s next-generation stealth fighter, is being developed as a fifth-generation aircraft featuring stealth technology, supercruise capability, and advanced avionics. It is envisioned to provide the Indian Air Force with a technological edge in air combat and represents a major leap toward achieving cutting-edge indigenous fighter development by 2047.

ADA officials outlined plans for enhanced variants and next-generation aircraft under the Mark II and AMCA programmes, underscoring India’s push for self-reliance in defence technology and a technologically advanced air force. The event featured technical sessions, panel discussions, and presentations on future projects, highlighting India’s strategic journey in indigenous aviation innovation.

“This is a significant milestone in our journey towards self-reliance in defence technology,” said an ADA official. “The Tejas Mark II and AMCA are not just aircraft; they are symbols of India’s technological prowess and strategic vision for the future.”

The seminar also provided a platform for experts to discuss the roadmap for Indian aviation, focusing on innovation, collaboration, and the integration of contemporary technologies. The discussions highlighted the importance of fostering a robust defence ecosystem that can support the development and deployment of advanced fighter aircraft.

As India continues to invest in its defence capabilities, the Tejas Mark II and AMCA programmes are set to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the Indian Air Force. These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to achieving self-sufficiency in defence technology and ensuring that India remains at the forefront of global aviation innovation.
