Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the growing strategic importance of India-US ties, highlighting a series of high-level meetings in Washington that focused on defence, technology, and security. Modi described his meeting with US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz as “fruitful,” emphasizing the potential for enhanced cooperation in critical sectors.
“Had a fruitful meeting with NSA @michaelgwaltz. He has always been a great friend of India,” Modi posted on X. “Defence, technology and security are important aspects of India-USA ties and we had a wonderful discussion around these issues. There is strong potential for cooperation in sectors like AI, semiconductors, space and more,” he added.
Modi’s visit to the US capital included a bilateral meeting with President Donald Trump, following his initial engagement with Waltz. The discussions with Waltz, attended by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, set the stage for broader conversations on strengthening bilateral relations.
In addition to his meeting with Waltz, Modi met with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk at Blair House, the President’s Guest House. Musk’s arrival with his three young children added a personal touch to the high-level diplomatic interactions. This meeting comes at a time when both nations are exploring collaborative opportunities in advanced technologies, including space exploration and semiconductor development.
Modi also congratulated Tulsi Gabbard on her confirmation as the 8th Director of National Intelligence. “Congratulated her on her confirmation. Discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship, of which she’s always been a strong votary,” Modi noted on X. Gabbard, who took her oath of office just hours before her meeting with Modi, has been a vocal advocate for strengthening US-India relations.
The series of meetings reflects a concerted effort by both nations to deepen their strategic partnership. As Modi and his delegation engage with key US officials, the focus on defence, technology, and security underscores the multifaceted nature of the India-US relationship. The discussions on AI, semiconductors, and space highlight areas where both countries can leverage their strengths to drive innovation and security.
The strategic alignment between India and the US is poised to shape the future of global technology and defence landscapes. As both nations navigate an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, their collaboration in these critical sectors could set new benchmarks for international partnerships.
