Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump engaged in a comprehensive discussion to review the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, focusing on trade, critical technologies, defence, energy, and regional issues. The conversation underscored the commitment to advancing shared priorities and strengthening bilateral ties.
During their telephonic conversation, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the consistent strengthening of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their dedication to deepening cooperation across key sectors. They emphasized the importance of maintaining strong momentum in efforts to boost bilateral trade, recognizing that expanding commercial engagement is central to the economic pillar of their partnership.
Prime Minister Modi shared insights from the conversation on social media, stating, “Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the U.S. will continue to work together for global peace, stability, and prosperity.”
The leaders exchanged views on widening cooperation in critical technologies, energy, defence, and security. These sectors are pivotal components of the India-US COMPACT, which aims to catalyse opportunities for military partnership, faster commerce, and cutting-edge technology cooperation for the 21st century.
Discussions also covered significant global and regional developments, with both leaders emphasising the importance of working closely together to address shared challenges. They reiterated their commitment to advancing common interests through continued high-level engagement. “The two leaders agreed to remain in touch,” the official release added.
The conversation between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump comes days after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s high-profile visit to India. Putin’s two-day summit with Modi marked his first state visit to India since the Ukraine conflict began in February 2022, highlighting the political significance of the meeting for both nations.
During Putin’s visit, a widely circulated photograph of Modi and Putin carpooling sparked discussions even in the United States Congress. US Representative Sydney Kamlager Dove pointed to the image during a session on India-US relations, remarking, “This poster is worth a thousand words,” as she criticised the foreign policy approach adopted towards India under the Donald Trump administration.
As India and the United States continue to strengthen their strategic partnership, the dialogue between Modi and Trump underscores the importance of collaboration in addressing global challenges and fostering mutual growth. The ongoing engagement between the two leaders is expected to pave the way for deeper cooperation and a more robust partnership in the years to come.
