Saab and Wright Technologies Partner to Boost NZ Defence Capabilities

Saab Australia and Wright Technologies, a maritime electronics specialist, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore defence and maritime opportunities in New Zealand. This strategic partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both companies to contribute to the New Zealand Government’s plan to rebuild the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and address the challenges of an increasingly volatile global landscape.

Saab, a global leader in defence technology and complex systems integration, brings a wealth of expertise in advanced underwater systems. Their extensive portfolio includes defence and commercial systems designed to operate in the harshest ocean environments. Above the surface, Saab’s 9LV combat management systems and TactiCall integrated communication system provide scalable solutions for defence forces worldwide.

Wright Technologies, with over 60 years of experience in the defence and commercial maritime industries across New Zealand and the South Pacific, specialises in complex engineering, including the installation, repair, and maintenance of maritime systems. This partnership will combine Saab’s cutting-edge technology with Wright Technologies’ local expertise and operational experience.

“This collaboration is a significant step forward in enhancing New Zealand’s defence capabilities,” said a spokesperson for Saab Australia. “By integrating our advanced underwater systems and combat management solutions with Wright Technologies’ local knowledge and engineering prowess, we can deliver robust and innovative solutions tailored to the NZDF’s needs.”

The MoU will enable both companies to explore opportunities to support the NZDF’s modernisation efforts. Saab’s products, including the TactiCall communications system and remotely operated vehicles for inspection, repair, and intervention tasks, are already in service in New Zealand. This partnership aims to expand these capabilities and introduce new technologies to bolster the country’s defence infrastructure.

“Wright Technologies is excited to partner with Saab Australia to explore new opportunities in the defence and maritime sectors,” said a spokesperson for Wright Technologies. “Our combined expertise will enable us to provide comprehensive solutions that meet the evolving needs of the NZDF and contribute to the security of New Zealand.”

The collaboration between Saab Australia and Wright Technologies underscores a shared commitment to innovation and excellence in defence technology. By working together, the two companies aim to strengthen New Zealand’s defence capabilities and prepare the nation for future challenges.

This strategic partnership not only highlights the importance of international collaboration in defence but also demonstrates the potential for local expertise to drive technological advancements. As the global security environment becomes increasingly complex, such alliances are crucial in ensuring that defence forces are equipped with the latest technology and solutions to maintain operational readiness and effectiveness.
