In a significant move to bolster defence capabilities and foster technological innovation, India and France have signed a comprehensive technical agreement aimed at deepening collaboration in defence research and development. The agreement, inked in New Delhi, brings together the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India and the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) of France, marking a pivotal step in enhancing bilateral defence ties.
The Indian Ministry of Defence announced that the agreement establishes a formal framework for joint research and training programs, testing activities, and the exchange of information. It also encompasses the organisation of workshops and seminars to enhance skills and knowledge in defence research and development. “This collaboration will leverage the combined expertise and resources of both nations to develop innovative solutions for future defence challenges,” the statement noted.
Under the terms of the agreement, both countries are entitled to transfer equipment, know-how, and technologies across several key areas. These include aeronautical platforms, unmanned vehicles, advanced materials for defence applications, cyber security, artificial intelligence, space, navigation, advanced propulsion, advanced sensors, quantum technologies, underwater technologies, and other areas of mutual interest.
Samir V. Kamat, Chief of DRDO, and Gael Diaz de Tuesta, National Armaments Director of France’s DGA, signed the agreement, underscoring the commitment of both nations to advancing defence technology. “This cooperation will significantly contribute to national security and global defence technology advancements,” officials from both countries stated.
The agreement reflects a shared vision of leveraging cutting-edge technology to address evolving security challenges. By pooling resources and expertise, India and France aim to not only strengthen their defence capabilities but also set new benchmarks in global defence innovation.
