Jordan’s King Explores Defence Ties with Pakistan

King Abdullah of Jordan visited the Global Industrial and Defence Solutions (GIDS) company in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Sunday. The visit highlighted potential avenues for cooperation and expertise exchange between the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and the Pakistani defence sector, underscoring the deepening military ties between the two nations.

During the visit, His Majesty was briefed on GIDS’s research and development initiatives and its role in manufacturing military and defence equipment using cutting-edge technology. The Royal Court statement emphasised the company’s commitment to innovation and its significant contributions to Pakistan’s defence capabilities.

The visit also included a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, followed by a joint attendance of a military drill by Pakistani forces. This event showcased the operational readiness and technological advancements of the Pakistani military, providing an opportunity for both nations to observe and learn from each other’s strategies and capabilities.

Accompanying King Abdullah were Princess Salma, Prince Ghazi, the King’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh. Their presence underscored the significance of the visit and the mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

“This visit explores ways of cooperation and exchange of expertise between the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and the company, within the framework of military cooperation between Jordan and Pakistan,” the Royal Court statement said.

The collaboration between Jordan and Pakistan in defence and military technology is part of a broader strategy to enhance regional security and stability. By leveraging each other’s strengths, both nations aim to bolster their defence capabilities and foster innovation in military technology.

The visit to GIDS and the subsequent military drill highlight the strategic importance of Jordan-Pakistan relations. As both countries continue to invest in advanced defence solutions, their partnership is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the future of military technology and regional security.
