Syrma SGS Acquires Majority Stake in Elcome for Defence Push

Syrma SGS Technology, a prominent player in the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector, has announced a strategic acquisition that underscores its ambition to become a key player in India’s defence and maritime electronics landscape. The company has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a 60 percent majority stake in Elcome Integrated Systems (Elcome), a move that marks a significant entry into the defence and maritime electronics domain.

Founded in 1978 and headquartered in Navi Mumbai, Elcome has established itself as a trusted partner to India’s defence and maritime establishments. Over the past four decades, the company has specialised in advanced electronic systems, integrated command solutions, and mission-critical technologies. Its portfolio includes navigation, communication, and surveillance systems, such as Integrated Bridge Systems, navigation radars, and maritime communication suites, which are extensively deployed across Indian Navy and maritime platforms. Elcome’s strong research and development foundation and engineering depth enable it to deliver high-reliability, indigenous solutions tailored to complex operational requirements.

The acquisition is set to strengthen Syrma SGS’s presence in the fast-growing defence electronics segment, a key area of national importance. By combining Elcome’s domain expertise with Syrma SGS’s industrial-scale manufacturing, supply chain capabilities, and product engineering strengths, the two companies aim to deliver high-reliability, innovation-led systems for defence customers in India and abroad.

“This marks a significant milestone in Syrma SGS’s long-term strategic roadmap,” said Sandeep Tandon, Chairman of Syrma SGS Technology. “India’s defence sector is witnessing strong indigenisation and capability expansion. Elcome brings deep technical expertise, proven deployment experience, and trusted customer relationships across key defence institutions. Together, we aim to build a scaled, innovation-driven domestic platform in defence electronics, aligned with India’s national priorities.”

This strategic move aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, reinforcing India’s commitment to self-reliance in advanced electronic systems and the growth of indigenous defence technology capabilities. The acquisition is expected to enhance Syrma SGS’s ability to meet the evolving needs of the defence sector, while also contributing to the broader goal of strengthening India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.

As the defence electronics segment continues to grow, the synergy between Syrma SGS and Elcome is poised to drive innovation and deliver cutting-edge solutions that meet the stringent requirements of defence and maritime applications. This acquisition not only underscores Syrma SGS’s strategic vision but also highlights the increasing emphasis on indigenisation and self-reliance in India’s defence sector.
