Safran and Rheinmetall Forge Landmark Defence Tech Partnership

At DSEI London, Safran Electronics & Defense and Rheinmetall Electronics have signed a landmark framework agreement, reinforcing their long-term collaboration in the defence sector. This strategic move is set to streamline procurement processes and accelerate joint innovation, addressing critical defence challenges in an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.

The agreement underscores a shared commitment to delivering advanced technologies, including navigation systems for GNSS-denied environments, atomic clock timeservers, and vehicle and handheld optronics. Its flexible structure allows for rapid adaptation to evolving defence requirements, ensuring both companies can respond swiftly to emerging threats and operational demands.

Christian Martens, head of Rheinmetall’s Business Unit Defence Electronics, emphasised the strategic significance of the partnership: “With this strategic agreement, we are laying the foundation for a strong partnership that opens up new perspectives and enables us to drive innovation together, thus contributing to actively shape the future of our industry.”

Marzell Schiller, CEO of Safran Electronics & Defense Germany, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the trust and synergy between the two firms: “We’re excited to deepen our collaboration with Rheinmetall and introduce state-of-the-art solutions. This agreement reflects the trust between our teams and opens new possibilities for ambitious projects ahead.”

Beyond simplifying logistics and administration, this partnership allows both companies to focus on innovation and delivering high-value solutions to end users. Rheinmetall Electronics has already placed orders for Safran’s navigation and timing products, such as Versasynch, demonstrating the immediate benefits of the streamlined procurement process.

The agreement aligns with France and Germany’s joint commitment to strengthening Europe’s defence industrial base. By pooling technological resources, Safran and Rheinmetall aim to reinforce the development of a more competitive and autonomous European defence sector. This collaboration not only enhances operational capabilities but also positions both nations as leaders in defence innovation, setting a precedent for future cross-border partnerships.

As geopolitical tensions persist, this agreement signals a proactive approach to securing Europe’s defence future. By combining expertise and resources, Safran and Rheinmetall are not just responding to current challenges—they are shaping the next generation of defence technology.
