UK MoD Contracts Tiberius for Revolutionary Ramjet Artillery

Tiberius Aerospace has secured a significant contract with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to develop Sceptre, a groundbreaking 155mm ramjet artillery munition. This contract positions the UK as the launch customer for Tiberius’ cutting-edge technology, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of long-range precision strike capabilities.

Sceptre, officially designated TRBM 155HG, represents a leap forward in artillery systems. Unlike traditional munitions, Sceptre employs a liquid-fuelled ramjet propulsion system, enabling speeds of Mach 3.5 and altitudes exceeding 65,000 feet—placing it beyond the reach of most electronic jamming systems. With a range of up to 150 km and a payload capacity of up to 5.2 kg, Sceptre delivers unparalleled precision, boasting a circular error probability (CEP) of less than 5 meters, even in GPS-contested environments. Traditional artillery systems, by comparison, typically achieve CEPs of over 100 meters.

The munition’s design prioritises operational efficiency and sustainability. Its ignition system and limited barrel contact points minimise wear and tear on artillery platforms, ensuring compatibility with NATO-standard 155mm systems. Additionally, Sceptre’s proprietary just-in-time, multi-fuel liquid propellant system—compatible with diesel, JP-4, and JP-8—reduces logistics burdens, storage hazards, and extends shelf life beyond 20 years.

“Since the launch of Sceptre in May 2025, Tiberius has evolved the capability at pace through a series of high-tempo live-firing and synthetic test cycles,” said Andy Baynes, co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Tiberius Aerospace. “We’re delighted to announce this UK MoD contract, which has invested early in our technology development cycle. This is testament to the UK’s visionary leadership and their understanding of the importance of driving innovative solutions such as Sceptre and Defense-as-a-Service to increase national security.”

The US Defence Innovation Unit (DIU) will facilitate independent verification and validation for the testing of Sceptre, ensuring rigorous standards are met. Tiberius Aerospace, founded in 2022 by Chad Steelberg and Andy Baynes, brings a Silicon Valley ethos to defence innovation, applying best practices from technology giants like Google and Apple. The company’s approach emphasises rapid design, development, and cost-effective solutions for deep-strike capabilities.

Tiberius Aerospace will showcase its innovations at DSEI 2025 in London, where it will unveil its GRAIL platform—a collaborative initiative aimed at revolutionising defence industry practices. The platform will be introduced during the Cyber & Specialist Operations Command (CSOC) keynote forum on Wednesday, 10th September 2025, alongside UK and US defence innovation experts.

This contract underscores the UK’s commitment to fostering cutting-edge defence technologies and highlights the growing synergy between military innovation and commercial sector expertise. As Tiberius Aerospace continues to refine Sceptre, the technology could redefine the future of artillery warfare, offering allies a decisive edge in contested environments.
