Viettel, Vietnam’s Military Industry and Telecoms Group, is making a bold statement at the national exhibition marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day. The company is showcasing 50 cutting-edge civilian and military technology products, underscoring its pivotal role in Vietnam’s defence and digital transformation.
At the Vietnam Exposition Centre in Hanoi, Viettel’s technologies are on display across multiple exhibition areas, including those of the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Construction, and the Hanoi People’s Committee. The outdoor space of the Ministry of National Defence, in particular, highlights Viettel’s “Make in Vietnam, Made by Viettel” military innovations.
Among the standout exhibits is the 152mm heavy howitzer, a formidable piece of artillery designed for long-range fire support. This system represents a significant leap in Vietnam’s artillery capabilities, offering precision and range that are critical for modern warfare. Complementing this is the 57mm anti-aircraft gun, engineered to protect strategic facilities such as airports, seaports, and factories from aerial threats. These systems demonstrate Viettel’s ability to develop advanced defence technologies that meet the evolving needs of national security.
Viettel is also presenting its long-range strategic UAVs, which are equipped with reconnaissance, electronic warfare, target acquisition, and strike capabilities. These unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are a testament to Vietnam’s growing expertise in drone technology, offering both surveillance and combat functionalities. Alongside these, Viettel is showcasing modern counter-UAV systems, developed by Vietnamese engineers to neutralise enemy drones—a critical capability in today’s asymmetric warfare landscape.
Lieutenant General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel, emphasised the company’s strategic focus on research and development. “Viettel has concentrated on strategic research programmes and is involved in developing nine out of the country’s 11 strategic technologies,” he said. This commitment aligns with the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, which prioritises breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
Beyond defence, Viettel is also presenting its latest digital products, including 5G base stations and chips, smart city and smart factory platforms, and cybersecurity solutions. These innovations reflect Viettel’s leadership in building Vietnam’s digital society and providing the infrastructure necessary for nationwide digital transformation.
By participating in this exhibition, Viettel is not only showcasing its high-tech defence industry capabilities but also affirming its role as a key player in both defence and digital transformation. The company’s ability to master core technologies and develop weapon systems that approach international standards underscores its position as a cornerstone of Vietnam’s technological and military advancement.
As Vietnam continues to strengthen its defence capabilities and digital infrastructure, Viettel’s contributions will be pivotal in shaping the country’s future. The exhibition serves as a platform to highlight these achievements and reinforce the company’s commitment to innovation and national development.
