Modi Lauds Bengaluru’s Role in India’s Defence Tech Triumph

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored Bengaluru’s pivotal role in India’s defence technology and the Make in India mission, directly linking the city’s innovation ecosystem to the success of Operation Sindoor. The operation, which involved precision strikes on terrorist camps and a swift military response against Pakistan, has been celebrated as a showcase of India’s indigenous defence capabilities.

Speaking at the inauguration of Bengaluru’s Metro Yellow Line and the foundation-laying ceremony for Phase 3, Modi praised Karnataka’s youth and industrial ecosystem for their contributions to defence manufacturing and technology. He emphasised that Bengaluru is not just an IT hub but also a burgeoning centre for high-end defence production.

“The success of Operation Sindoor is a testament to the strength of our technology and defence capabilities built on the foundation of Make in India,” Modi said. “Bengaluru’s youth and Karnataka’s industrial ecosystem have played a major role in this achievement.”

The Prime Minister’s remarks highlight a broader strategic shift in India’s defence sector, where homegrown innovation is increasingly driving military advancements. Bengaluru, with its deep talent pool and thriving tech ecosystem, is emerging as a key player in this transformation. The city’s ability to blend tradition with cutting-edge innovation was also acknowledged, with Modi paying tribute to its founder, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, for his vision of a city that harmonises heritage with progress.

This recognition of Bengaluru’s role in defence technology underscores the growing importance of domestic manufacturing in shaping India’s military strategy. As the country continues to strengthen its defence capabilities, the contributions of cities like Bengaluru will be crucial in realising the vision of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’—a self-reliant India.
