HAVELSAN and Karel Europe have formalised a strategic partnership at IDEF 2025, signalling a concerted effort to bolster Romania’s defence capabilities through high-tech innovation. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed at the International Defence Industry Fair in Istanbul, underscores a shared commitment to developing integrated solutions for Romania’s military sector.
The agreement focuses on commercial development and operational collaboration in military and information technology. By combining Karel Europe’s expertise in military communications with HAVELSAN’s software-driven solutions, the partnership aims to deliver cutting-edge, software-centric products to European markets.
Şevket Ünal, HAVELSAN’s Vice President of International Business Development and Marketing, highlighted the significance of the Romanian market: “Last year was the first time we sent e-maritime solutions to Romania, which is a European Union country. We are getting more involved in the region, and this new deal with Karel Europe might lead to both military and civilian developments.”
Yavuz Bayız, President of Karel’s Military Technologies, echoed this sentiment, emphasising the strategic importance of the collaboration: “This MoU with HAVELSAN is a big step towards expanding the European footprint of our defence industry through high-tech transformation. We want to create integrated, high-value systems that meet Romania’s defence demands by combining Karel’s knowledge in military communications with HAVELSAN’s software solutions.”
