Azerbaijan and Türkiye have deepened their military partnership with a new agreement between Baku’s Ministry of Defence and Baykar, a leading Turkish defence technology firm. The “Logistics Support and Sales Agreement,” signed during IDEF-2025, underscores the strategic alignment between the two nations and highlights Baykar’s expanding role in global drone warfare.
The agreement, announced by Baykar on X (formerly Twitter), signals a new phase in defence cooperation, particularly in advanced drone and aerospace systems. “We hope that this cooperation will be beneficial for both brotherly countries,” Baykar stated, reflecting the close ties that have developed between Ankara and Baku in recent years.
Baykar, a pioneer in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology, has become synonymous with modern drone warfare. Its Bayraktar TB2 and Akıncı drones played a pivotal role in Azerbaijan’s 2020 Karabakh conflict, demonstrating their effectiveness in real-world operations. The company’s vertical integration—spanning avionics, software, and airframe development—ensures its position as a global leader in autonomous systems.
The deal was finalised at IDEF-2025, a premier international defence exhibition hosted by Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence. This year’s fair has drawn over 1,000 delegates, including heads of state and defence chiefs, reinforcing its status as a hub for defence diplomacy. The event showcases over 400 cutting-edge products from 44 nations, spanning land, air, naval, and cyber warfare technologies.
For Azerbaijan, this agreement reinforces its strategy of diversifying military partnerships while leveraging Türkiye’s defence expertise. For Baykar, it represents another step in expanding its international footprint, as it continues to export its signature drones and related systems to allies and partners worldwide.
The deal also underscores a broader trend: the increasing significance of drone technology in modern warfare. As nations seek to modernise their armed forces, companies like Baykar are at the forefront of delivering affordable, highly effective unmanned systems that reshape battlefield dynamics.
With IDEF-2025 serving as a catalyst for such partnerships, the Azerbaijan-Baykar agreement is a clear indication of how defence alliances are evolving in response to emerging threats.
